Narrative Description of Project:

In order to address shortage of public transport and mitigate the adverse effect of vehicular emissions in various cities of Punjab, Punjab Transport Company (PTO) aims to induct environment friendly buses. Package-I --- Induction of Eco-Friendly Buses in Lahore Package-II --- Piloting of Electric Buses in Lahore Package-III --- Induction of Eco-Friendly Buses in Faisalabad Package-IV --- Induction of Buses in Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi khan and Mianwali Districts

Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff within the Assignment:

The responsibilities of the Exponent Engineers include, but are not limited to the following: • To recommend the most appropriate routes feasible for operations of eco-friendly diesel/CNG buses in five cities of Punjab and for operations of electric buses in Lahore. • To propose specifications for the recommended type of eco-friendly (Hybrid/Electric) bus, taking into consideration the operational requirements of proposed routes e.g., daily mileage, route lengths, potential ridership, requirement of buses, bus headways and frequencies vehicle range for single charge considering temperature variations, daily mileage, topography of the area, passenger capacity etc., battery pack size and type, energy requirements, charging requirements etc., for smooth operation. The considerations must include provision of Automated Fare Collection and Bus Scheduling System (AFC-BSS), Passenger information Systems (PIS), and other systems required for operations. • To identify Location, area requirement and bus depots facilities for operations, maintenance, overnight parking, and associated infrastructure plan for the recommended type of buses. • To compare different business models for induction and operation of buses, based on best international practices. Suggest appropriate business model for bus operations by evaluating the pros and cons of different models. • To estimate Capital, Operational & Maintenance cost, revenue estimation based on different fare structure, work out financial assistance (if required) for induction & operation of buses for different business models. • To conduct detailed economic analysis of the project including cost benefit analysis, EIRR, NPV, cost benefit ratio etc. • To work out comparative analysis of Diesel & CNG buses and their sustainability model and study shall also include impact on environment. • To work out human resource requirements for operations of public transport, if required. • To develop requirements & Specifications of electric infrastructure for charging stations (Slow & Fast) at Depots and along the corridors by reviewing international best practices.
