Narrative Description of Project:

Flx Mobility (UK), trading as GoAscendal, in collaboration with Exponent Engineers (Pvt.) Ltd., were appointed by the World Bank to support with a peak-hours accessibility analysis in secondary cities in Punjab. This analysis will entail the mapping of informal and formal public transport services in three intermediate cities, namely Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala, as well as conducting Intercept Surveys to identify accessibility issues for commuters traveling to their jobs and other purposes. At present, there is limited urban transport data available at the secondary cities level, therefore these activities intend to aid in understanding the barriers and challenges of urban transport in these cities. The primary objective of the consultancy is to collect data and information in Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala cities/areas on: (a) the geographic layout of the transit network; (b) intercept surveys to understand the mobility needs, barriers, and employment status of women and men and other demographic information (250 respondents per city).

Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff within the Assignment:

The primary aim of transport mapping is to collect transport services supply/demand and network data, to aid in better understanding the nature of existing services. This includes route identification, locations of stops, typical origins and destinations of passengers. Similarly, the aim of the intercept surveys is to understand the mobility needs, barriers, and employment status of women and men and other demographic information. The surveys are expected to take less than 10 minutes per participant. Intercept survey locations should be selected to ensure as representative a sample of public transit users. The sample must be stratified by age, shares of usage of mode, and population density by geography.
