17 Market buildings situated at Marriot Road, M. A. Jinnah Road at Bolton Market Area of Karachi were devastated by fire and were demolished after being declared as dangerous. The task of reconstruction of these buildings, for the rehabilitation of the affected trading community, was entrusted to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries. The Karachi Affected Markets Relief Committee formed by KCCI, acting as Project Owner, appointed Exponent Engineers (Pvt.) Ltd. as Consultant for structural design and detailed supervision of construction of buildings. The project was executed on a fast track basis. The shops at ground floor were handed to the shopkeepers after six months of project inception, in the meantime, the construction of warehouses at upper floors continued. Total floor area of 17 buildings: 156,500 sq. ft. Number of stories: varied from Ground plus two floors to Ground plus four floors Scope Of Work: Cad analysis & design of the building structures, working drawings, BOQ and detailed construction supervision.
