Narrative Description of Project:
The Karachi Bus Rapid Transit Red Line Project will deliver a high-quality mass transit system to one of the city's principal corridors. The purpose of this project is to develop a sustainable urban transport system that delivers fast, affordable, comfortable, safe, and secure services to all. The Red Line BRT project encompasses both (i) the Red Line Corridor which extends over 24-km from Numaish to Malir Halt Depot; (ii) the Common Corridor segment, which extends over 3-km from Municipal Park to Merewether Tower along M.A. Jinnah Road; and (iii) eight off-corridor direct and feeder service routes that connect the corridor to nearby communities. The total length of roadworks under the project investment is 29-km for the main corridor and 3-km for the common corridor. The last leg of common corridor also included development of 1.5 km as a Pedestrian Mall.
Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff within the Assignment:
The following services shall be provided to the Client:
Output 1: Detailed Design for Common Corridor: The output encompassed on preparation of detailed design for last section of BRT corridor segment along Common Corridor. The work included: i) survey of existing conditions; ii) preliminary design of corridor (busway, cycle way, pedestrian facilities, parking facilities, & urban public space); iii) detailed design of corridor; iv) produce BOQs & cost estimates, v) deliver EMP; Urban flood mitigation planning and design including tidal measurements with detention and retention ponds analyses.
Output 2: Operational Plan and Design for Behn's Colony Route: This output included development of a direct service connecting residents of Behn's Colony to Red Line network. The work encompassed: i) Determination of optimum route; ii) financial modeling of new route; iii) locational of bus shelters; iv) infrastructure enhancements; v) revision of Red Line operational plan to include the Behn's Colony route.
Output 6: Lane Strip Pilot Demonstration: This output delivers a pilot demonstration of lane strip construction, which will give GOS & TKC confidence to confirm decision on lane strip technology.
Output 3: Detailed Design for Numaish Staging Facility and Commercial Center: The output encompassed: i) feasibility study, survey work of existing conditions; ii) detailed design of multilevel facility & commercial center spanning over 5,000 sqm per floor; iii) produce BOQs & cost estimates; iv) deliver EMP.
Output 4: Detailed Design for the Transport Center: The Center is an extension of current BRT OCC to a 14-floor commercial building on 0.5-acre plot. This output includes Architectural & Engineering Designs for OCC: i) feasibility study, survey work of existing conditions; ii) detailed designs (Architectural & Structural) ; iii) produce BOQs & cost estimates; iv) deliver EMP v) fulfill technical requirements & assist in approval from Sindh Environment Protection Agency (SEPA);
Output 7: TransKarachi Office Design: This output delivers an architectural design of TKC office, The consultant provided a design of office layout, which was used to obtain construction quotations. The consultant also supervised the construction works.
Output 5: Specifications for Civil Works Packages: This output packages technical specifications, BOQs, & EMP for outputs 1 through 4 into consolidated bid documents & specifications.
