Narrative Description of Project:
Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) in May 2014. This technical assistance developed a 20-year urban transport strategy with a 10-year action plan. Based on available data and generic estimates, it recommended development of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on corridor 2 (GT Road from Chamkani to Karkhano). The total length of the BRT corridor is 27 km. 27 BRT stations are constructed. The GoKP requested ADB to provide a Project Design Advance (PDA) to conduct detailed engineering design and assist in the procurement of civil works and equipment, ahead of ADB’s Project Loan expected in 2017.
The total project is a full “façade-to-façade” reconfiguration of the entire 27-km BRT corridor [Phase 1], together with associated infrastructure. GoKP provided 15% of total project cost to cover mainly for taxes & duties, and for land acquisition and resettlement costs.
This Project is awarded 1) Gold Standard BRT Award by ITDP (Institute of Transportation & Development Policy), 2) Sustainable Transport Award, and 3) Best Smart Ticketing Award
