Narrative Description of Project:

The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metrobus is a 83.6 km BRT system operating in Islamabad–Rawalpindi metropolitan areas. It consists of 4 routes, namely Red, Orange, Blue, & Green Lines. The Red & Orange Lines have dedicated lanes , while Blue & Green Lines currently run along Islamabad Expressway & Srinagar Highway with mixed traffic. PMA through this study wished to develop a feasibility study for introducing feeder routes to Rawalpindi City to complement BRT ridership.

Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff within the Assignment:

1. Review of previous public transport studies. 2. Collecting additional data to meet study objectives. 3. Assessment of existing transport policies, development plans, existing road network, public transport routes, type of vehicle plying / permit issued, number of public transport vehicles, fares charged, problems in the existing public transport system. 4. Evaluating transport demand, requirement of buses, bus operation parameters, existing & proposed infrastructure, & integration of routes with mass transit and feeder services & recommend most appropriate routes feasible for operations (through use of transport surveys and analysis). 5. Assessing operational & financial viability of feeder bus network, considering optimal route design, fleet size, service frequency, fare structure and revenue & cost estimation, 6. Prioritize feasible feeder routes for induction of sizeable fleet to manage passenger demand in city by considering road infrastructure & other operational parameters. 7. Providing operational plan for feeder routes for Rawalpindi / Islamabad BRT Network. 8. Providing detailed bus specifications Considering operational requirements such as daily mileage, route lengths, potential ridership, requirement of buses, bus headways & frequencies etc. additionally, considering provision of AFC , BSS , PIS , & other systems needed for operations. 9. Compare business models for induction & operation of buses based on international practices & previous experiences. 10. Suggest appropriate business model for bus operations. 11. Estimating Capital, O&M costs, revenue estimation, ridership at different fare structures, 12. Estimating financial assistance for induction & operation of feeder buses for different business models. 13. Assessing infrastructure requirements such as bus stops, shelters, workshops, depot, & parking areas including their site identification & preliminary design along cost estimations for identified feeder routes. 14. Conducting Financial & Economic Analysis 15. Presenting findings & recommendations to stakeholders as per requirement of the Client.
