Narrative Description of Project:
The study aims to support the Government of Tajikistan in developing an integrated & sustainable Urban Mobility Framework for Dushanbe prioritizing public transport, non-motorized transport (NMT), & modern parking management. Dushanbe is experiencing one of the highest urban growth rates in Central Asia. Over the last decade, the city has expanded significantly beyond its traditional core This rapid growth has created substantial pressure on the transport network, much of which was originally designed for a much smaller population and far lower motorization levels. The current transport system is characterised by: High dependency on informal public transport (marshrutkas), A municipal bus and trolleybus system, A weak non-motorized transport environment, Lack of structured parking management & Institutional fragmentation. These factors collectively reduce efficiency of mobility system & overall accessibility of the city.
The specific objectives of the project are to: Optimize public transport network, Develop a Green Mobility Corridor, Assess and modernize the parking system, Strengthen institutional capacity, Evaluate economic and financial feasibility & Provide a coherent mobility roadmap.
