Narrative Description of Project:
Yerevan the capital and the largest city and the financial, industrial, and commercial centre of Armenia. Yerevan Municipality (YM) aims to enhance urban mobility & traffic conditions in the city through improvements of public transport services & the road network. The Government of Armenia (GOA) requested ADB to help finance improvements of bus-based public transport, to improve quality of & increase demand for public transport in Yerevan and curb increasing demand for the use of private vehicles. The project is supported by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) through E-Mobility Program, which includes improvements of non-motorized & public transport, & the deployment of electric buses.
The project has 11 tasks as outputs divided into 3 Blocks. The Block 1 (System Design & Technical Foundations) has 4 Tasks, Block 2 (Strategy, Safeguards & Financial Planning) has also 4 Tasks & Block 3 (Cross Cutting Themes & Institutional Strengthening) has 3 Tasks.
Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff within the Assignment:
Exponent Engineer’s Team will interact with teams working on all Blocks and Tasks indirectly. However, the direct responsibility is in following: Task 3 (Traffic and Parking Management in Yerevan): The goal is to analyze traffic patterns & infrastructure gaps to support efficient bus priority corridor design. The task will involve extensive data collection through field surveys, analysis and preparation a microsimulation model in line with the geometric design to ensure minimum delay to mixed traffic & prioritization to Public Transport. The task also covers preparing a detailed traffic management & parking plan for improving overall mobility along the selected Bus Corridors. The task will involve close coordination with Yerevan Municipality to formulate a balanced approach optimizing overall mobility specially taking care of vulnerable road users such as Pedestrians & Cyclists. Task 6 (Safeguards): The goal is to ensure compliance with ADB for Environmental & Social Safeguards. The safeguards shall be Armenian national legislation and ADB Safeguard Policy Statement (2009).
