Narrative Description of Project:

Access to people, goods, services, and information is the basis of economic development in cities. The better & more efficient this access, the greater the economic benefits through economies of scale, agglomeration effects & networking advantages. The primary objective of consultancy was to collect data & information in cities of Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala & Multan: (a) the geographic layout of transit network, frequency of service, fares; (b) audits of select public transit locations & surrounding areas; (c) intercept surveys to understand mobility needs, barriers, employment status by gender & other demographic information.

Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff within the Assignment:

The following was the scope of the project: Component 1 (Transit Network Data): Collecting & preparing General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data for cities of Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala & Multan for various transport modes including: bus, metro, rail & other fixed route minibuses / vans / taxis / autorickshaws / 2-wheelers etc. The survey shall be performed during peak period & process new data into a GTFS feed. Deliverable: GTFS files for transport modes, including bus, metro, rail & fixed route minibuses / vans / taxis / autorickshaws / 2 wheelers etc in each city. Component 2 (Audits): The scope under this component includes audits of select public transit locations & surrounding areas to identify barriers to mobility (especially women’s mobility). The aspects covered included assessing lighting, walkability, openness & visibility, presence of security, crowdedness, share of men & women present / using public transport etc. The methodology followed was derived from methodology developed by Safetipin (https://safetipin.com/). Deliverable: 1) Methodology & sampling frame for audits, 2) Report summarizing findings of audits along with companion raw data (in excel) & photographs Component 3 (Intercept Surveys): Under this component, 2,000 interview surveys in Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala & Multan were conducted. The survey participants were selected representative of population using public transit. Stratified by age, shares of usage of mode, & population density by geography. Deliverable: 1) FGDs report documenting conducting & findings of FGDs. Recordings of FGDs along with report, 2) Compiled, clean database for intercept data, 3) Report presenting methodology, procedures & issues / corrections made for data collection process.
